PORTOBELO

Portobelo's Bay was discovered by Christopher Colón on November 2, 1502 in his fourth trip to America, later and in order to prepare a plan of defense for the continent, the Spanish Crown sends the Field master Juan de Tejada and the Military Engineer Juan Bautista Antonelli in 1586 who choose Portobelo as center of the Carib for his magnificent topographic and port conditions not found along the Central American coasts. First God's Name is founded in 1509 and later his movement is decided to Portobelo

Where is it?

 The Monumental Set of Portobelo is on the coast of the Carib, in the Province of Colon, in an intermediate point between the Canal of Panama and San Blas's Archipelago.





 How to come?

 From the City of Panama in car, in approximately an hour and thirty minutes across the Road Transístmica. Also one accedes airway from the City of Panama (Airport Marcos A. Gelabert) to the City of Colon (Airport France Field) in 20 minutes to continue in car in an average of 40 minutes.

 Portobelo was declared Monumental Historical Set by means of the Law 91 of December 22, 1976
